New Renault Megane E-Tech Coming Soon: Specs, price and release info

Renault’s classy electric hatchback gets a new look, updated tech, a larger battery and over 300 miles of range

Renault has been smashing it out of the park with its electric cars with the Renault 5 winning awards left, right and centre – including New Car of the Year at our Drivers’ Choice Awards 2026 – and the Renault 4 offering the same ingredients in a more practical package. Then, there’s the upcoming Twingo which is as cute as a button, but what about Renault’s other EVs? With all the buzz around the retro-inspired Renaults, the Megane E-Tech hasn’t had the attention it deserves. We really enjoyed living with the Megane E-Tech a few years back and now Renault has given its Volkswagen ID.3 rival a refresh with a sharper look, more tech, and a new battery. With this comes an improved range of just over 300 miles and eligibility for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant. Will this be enough to propel the Megane into the limelight?

Here’s everything we know about the updated Megane E-Tech for 2027...

  • The Megane E-Tech is a mid-size electric hatchback sitting between the Renault 5 and the Scenic E-Tech in Renault’s electric range
  • It gains a Google Gemini AI assistant, faster charging and upgraded wireless phone charger
  • Up to 306 miles of range
  • Available to order now
  • Starting from £28,245 once the £3,750 Electric Car Grant is applied

Design and models available

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to our eyes the Megane E-Tech has always been an attractive car. Now it has a new front design, sharpening the details to give the Megane a meaner look in keeping with the wider Renault range. The previous squiggly daylight running lights have been swapped for a chequerboard pattern, and the gloss back grille with its repeated diamond motif is lifted from the Scenic E-Tech. At the back the rear lights get an update too, with a new three-dimensional design. The Megane will come with the option of just two trim levels – Techno and Esprit Alpine – with each getting a slightly different look and its own wheel design.

Interior and tech

Inside, the Megane keeps its Google-powered infotainment, which is good news as Renault’s system is one of the most intuitive in the business and now upgraded with a Gemini AI assistant. The layout remains familiar with a 12-inch central touch-screen and a 12.3-inch digital driver display, and features like a ventilated wireless phone charger and a 360-degree camera come as standard.

There will be five levels of regenerative braking, including ‘one-pedal’ mode controlled with flappy paddles behind the steering wheel. Renault has also added a new ‘smart’ driving mode which adapts to your driving styles and there’s now a driver recognition feature automatically adjusting to your preferred settings. Like many new EVs, the Megane has Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability allowing you to charge other electrical devices using the car’s battery with the help of an adapter accessory.

Batteries/range

The Megane E-Tech swaps its 60kWh battery for a larger 67kWh one. All cars have 220 horsepower and Techno models have an official WLTP range of up to 306 miles. Meanwhile, the larger wheels on the Esprit Alpine reduce the maximum range to 298 miles. The Megane can now accept up to 165kW DC charging which reduced the time to charge from 15 to 80 per cent to around 24 minutes.

Price and release

The updated Megane E-Tech is available to order now and it joins the R5, R4 and the Scenic in gaining the the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant. After this discount prices start from £28,245 for the Techno trim, while Esprit Alpine will cost £31,245.

What other cars from Renault are due this year?
